All About Us

Room Nine is a class of wonderful New Entrants and Year 1's  and we look forward to seeing our class grow over the coming weeks.

I  am looking forward to getting to know you and your family and make your child's start at Parkland School positive, fun and enjoyable.

I am in my classroom at 8:30am every morning and after school if you need to see me (although I do have a meeting at 3:15 on Mondays and Tuesdays).

Start of the Day
Our first bell goes at 8:30am which lets the children know that they can come into their classroom. The children need to unpack their bags by putting their lunchboxes on the lunch table, drink bottles on their desk, getting their brainfood out, putting their bookbags in the box and hanging their bags up. Please encourage your child to do these jobs by themselves as it helps develop their independence.

Library
Our Library day is Wednesday. Your child will be able to issue out one book that they need to bring back each Wednesday so that they can choose a new book.

Class Leader
Each child will have a turn at being the 'Class Leader'. They have a special chair to sit on and are given extra jobs to do during the day. These might include handing out and collecting work, lining up first and taking messages around the school. Ask your child to tell you about what they did when they were class leader.

Water Bottles
We encourage children to have a drink bottle on their desk so they can have a drink at any time -  bottles must contain water, NOT juice.

Sunhats
Sunhats are compulsory for outside play in Terms 1 and 4. These are available to purchase from Academy Apparel. NO HAT - NO PLAY

Oral Language
Room 9 has a daily Oral Language programme.

Please help your child to prepare when they bring an oral language card home. So keep an eye out in their book bags.

Brain Food and Lunches
We normally stop around 9:30am for a quick brain food break. Brain food needs to be something that is not in a packet and that can be eaten in 5 minutes-it can be a good idea to cut apples into pieces so it can be eaten fast. Our school is a no waste school which means all rubbish needs to go back in your childs lunchbox to be taken home. It is a good idea to include a plastic bag in their lunchbox so they can put their rubbish in it (as a parent I know what it is like when half eaten yoghurt comes home in a lunchbox!!!!)


Around 6 weeks at school I will contact you for a New Entrant interview on your child's progress so far at school. They are usually held after school and last 10-15 minutes. You will be given a printed copy of the report to take home.
