We are a great bunch of New Entrant children who love learning and working together in a team! Check out what we get up to in Nifty Nine...
Funny Photos
We have been learning all about the digraph 'ph' so for our Letter of the Week activity, we took funny photos of ourselves and made a photogrid. We think we look simply gorgeous...what do you think?????
Shape Pictures
We got together with Room 10 for maths today and made these funky pictures using a variety of different shapes. We have been learning all about shapes and how many sides and corners different shapes have.
Walk-a-long
Well done everyone, we completed the School Walk-a-long!!! Not only did we complete it, but we walked it with big smiles. We raised about $2300 for our Long Jump Pit. Thank you everyone for your support!
New World Little Gardens
We have planted our New World Little Gardens. They are growing really well and we will be sending these home soon. It would be great if you could plant these at home and keep us updated as to how they are going.
Birthday Peacock
Happy 6th Birthday Tessa! Thanks for bringing in your Fruit Peacock. In Dutch culture, it is customary for the Birthday person to bring in something to share with the class.
Egg Carton Flowers
Today for the Letter E we made flowers using egg cartons. We had to cut them out and then paint the inside of them. We then added a stem and pompom. They look eggceptional!!!
Scales
We have been learning about Weight and Mass for Strand Maths. Today we made our own scales using a coathanger and some plastic cups. We used these to compare the weights of items around the class. There was lots of discussion around what would be heavier and what would be lighter!
Our Diorama's are finally finished!!!
After 4 weeks we have finally finished making our Dinosaur Diorama's and they look fantastic!!! First we had to paint the background. Then we added the grass, mountain and clouds. Next came the lava, lake and dinosaurs. Finally we added the tree to make our dioramas complete. Check out our awesome work. They will be coming home later this week.
Measuring a T-Rex
As part of our measurement unit we went outside on the basketball court to see just how long a T-Rex would have been. We found out that a T-Rex was about 12 metres long. It took 11 of our children to be the same length as the giant T-rex. We decided that it was good that this dinosaur was extinct!!!
Wonderful Writers
Hazel and Maybelle wrote a fantastic story about a dinosaur. Mrs Hildred was so impressed by how they added 'juicy' words and really thought about their audience that she sent them to show Mr Barnett - who was just as impressed. Ka pai girls, keep up the fantastic work!
Best Dressed Pirate
Tessa was chosen as Room 9's Best Dressed Pirate during the parade. Well done Tessa - You looked amazing. Enjoy your treasure!!!
Ruby's Grandma reading to us
As part of Book Week we invited parents and grandparents to come and read to us. Ruby's grandma took up the challenge and came in and read two fantastic stories to us. Thank you so much for doing this. We loved the stories!!!
Disco Time!
After such a busy Pirate day at school, it was a great to end the day with a Pirate Disco. Thanks to all the kids who taught me some new moves and didn't laugh too much at my dancing!!!!
Pirate Day - Aaargh!
Wow - what a great effort everyone put in for our Pirate Dress Up day for Book Week. We had so much fun being Pirates for a day!
SAS - Serious About Science
We have been busy with our science unit 'SAS - Serious About Science". Here are two of our experiments. The first one we put gummi bears in different solutions to see what would happen overnight. Most of them grew bigger. The one in vinegar became mushy!
The other experiment was to see how strong spaghetti is. We lay spaghetti down between 2 blocks and then added more blocks on top. It turns out spaghetti is rather strong!!!
Stu Duval
Parkland School was lucky enough to have Stu Duval, artist and author, come and teach us how to draw cartoons. Everyone had such a good time and I was super impressed by the quality of drawings that the children produced.
Rain Experiment
We have begun our new topic unit, SAS - Serious About Science. We will looking at a range of different science experiments and learn to ask appropriate questions and make predictions about what will happen. Please talk to your children about these experiments and what they have learnt. Perhaps you could even recreate these at home!
Junior Team Star
Ruby was awarded the Junior Team Star at sharing for always trying her best. Sometimes we find things a bit tricky and scary in Room 9 but Ruby always challenges herself to give things a go!!!! Ka pai to mahi!
E is for Elephants
Today we made Elephants using party blowers for the trunks. We had to colour our elephants, then cut them out. This was a bit tricky but we all rose to the challenge. We then added a party blower for the trunk. It was very noisy when we all blew our trunks together - just like a real herd of elephants!!!!
Growing Beans
Back in week 5, we planted bean seeds for our letter B activity. We have been watering and looking after them and the have grown soooo big! We will be bringing them home on the last day to plant in our gardens at home.
