Hi everyone. I hope you are all being really good for Mr Watson. I am feeling lots better after my wisdom teeth surgery. I am still a bit sore and very tired but I will be back at school on Wednesday. I am really looking forward to seeing you all again!!! Xoxoxo
Digi Awards
We have 2 finalists in this years Digi Awards. Esther, Ava and Charli worked together to produce a clever photo essay called 'Friends'. Millie is also a finalist in the same category with her fantastic entry called 'Same but different'. The awards take place on Monday 9th November and we wish all the girls the best!!! 
Fire Truck Visit
As part of our Firewise Unit, we had some Firemen come and talk about how we can keep ourselves safe if there was a fire in our house. We learnt how important it is to have working smoke alarms and if we hear them go off, we need to 'Get down, Get low, and Get out FAST! We also got to go and have a look at a fire truck and even got to sit inside!!!! 
Milo Have-a-Go Cricket
Today we had a go at cricket. Tim came to show us how to catch a cricket ball and then we had a go at hitting the ball. It was so much fun. We got given a notice about maybe having a go at cricket next year. It looks really good. 
Athletics
We have been busy getting ready for our Athletics Day coming up in Week 5. Today we practiced running in straight lines on our track. Some of us found it quite tricky staying in our own lanes!!!!
Shake Out Day!
Today we practiced what to do if there was an earthquake at school. We had to Drop, Cover and Hold. Then we had to evacuate the classroom and go to our safe meeting place. This was part of the National Shake Out Day.
Calendar Art
We have just finished our Calendar Art. Envelopes to order these will come home tomorrow. Come and have a look at our awesome family portraits. You can also get these as cards and diaries. Makes great Christmas presents for grandparents!!!

Today we made ghosts as our letter of the week was 'g'. We had fun making ghost noises with our puppets.
Morning Massages
We love listening to the song 'Old MacMassage' in the morning. It makes us feel so good for the rest of the day. Ask your kids to show the actions!
Alena's Homework
I got a bit of a surprise when I was marking our letter 'a' homework page. Alena had put a big picture of me in her book. What a clever idea Alena. It is certainly a big picture of me!!!!!

Esther's Post on Monday, 31 August 2015
Esther bought her bean plant in that we started growing in Term 2 in plastic bags. She has been looking after it very carefully and it even has a tiny bean growing on it. Ka pai Esther!!!!! I hope you share your beans with me!
Dissolving
Today we talked about what dissolving meant. We learnt that it means 'turning into liquid'. We got into groups and trialled different ingredients to see if they would dissolve or not. We made predictions before our experiment. We all thought salt, coffee, and sugar would dissolve and sand, flour and weetbix would not dissolve. We were pleased to discover that our predictions were correct! Maybe we could try some other ingredients at home.....?
Room 9's Tree Has Gone.
This morning the tree outside Room 9 had to be cut down because the roots have broken the drains under the ground. We all went out to watch the tree being cut down. It was very noisy but fun to watch the men cutting it down.
Making Butter
Wow-making butter is so easy! We put some cream and a little bit of salt in a jar and closed it up tightly. Then we all had a turn shaking the jar really fast. As we were shaking the jar, we noticed that the runny cream was starting to get thicker. It made a big ball of butter in the middle of the jar. We spread this on some pikelet's and had them for lunch. Yummy!!!!!
Sherbet!
Today we experimented with making sherbet. We tried all the ingredients by themselves and found some were very sweet and some were VERY sour! When we mixed them all together it tasted yummy and fizzy on our tongues. Look out for a recipe in your book bags on how to make sherbet at home.

U is for Umbrellas. Today we made some umbrellas using sticky contact paper and coloured tissue paper. It's just as well because it has been a very rainy day!
Kitchen Chemistry
Today we began our Kitchen Chemistry experiments by predicting what would happen to our marshmallows when we put them in the microwave. Some of us thought the marshmallow would melt and some of us thought it would explode. Lucky the marshmallow didn't explode, but it did melt into a wonderful gooey mess that we were able to eat!!!!!!!
Visiting Performer
On Friday we had the NZ Playhouse visit our school and perform their show "Jack Flash and the Jumping Beanstalk". It was based around Jack and the Beanstalk but had a very good message about recycling. They were very good and made us all laugh very hard!
News Reporter
Roman was our News Reporter today. He shared his amazing poster he had made of his holiday adventures. We loved listening to all the fun things he did. Ka pai Roman👌
V is for Volcano
Today we talked about what makes a volcano and what happens when it erupts. We made our own volcano using sand, baking soda and vinegar. It was fun watching our volcano erupt!
Zero Waste
This week we had Mrs Goodall from Zero Waste come to teach us about what rubbish is and how we can make less rubbish. She showed us some fun ways to reuse things that we throw away. We really liked the Can Telephones.
Postcard Competition
Today we have been busy entering a postcard competition. It took a lot of concentration to write so small.
Farewell Levi
Farewell Levi. We will miss you heaps in Nifty Nine but I know you will do so well at your new school. Thanks for being a wonderful friend to us all in Nifty Nine! Good luck and keep in touch😀

Wow-what a busy Discovery Time we had today. We made Elephants, Eskimos, Electric Circuits, Eye Collage and Egg Carton creations. We also decorated our envelopes that we sent our assembly invites in.
Discovery Time Dressing Up!
What yucky weather outside today! Because we had to all be inside Mrs Hildred thought it would be fun to get the dress ups out. We had so much fun pretending to be lots of different characters.
We're going on a Bear Hunt
Room 6 shared this cool poem with us last week. It has become a favourite of ours too. Ask your child to teach you the actions. It is a lot of fun!

Tee-Ball
As part of our P.E programme this term, we have been learning all about hitting and striking. Today we had a lot of fun learning to play tee-ball. We learnt how to hold the bat, keep our eye on the ball and running between bases. Maybe some Nifty Nine children may like to play tee-ball in term 4.

Today we each made a Goose using a paper plate. We had to cut part of the paper plate out, then draw an eye, colour in the beak and then add some feathers. They look GREAT!!!!
